How we got to where we are today.
When we first chartered in 1964 as Oregon Employees Federal Credit Union, our mission was to serve the state employees of Salem, Oregon. Through the years we grew from the $40,000 in assets contributed by the founding members to more than $17 million in 1987. It was at that time that we expanded our commitment to our members by building and moving into our current location on Winter Street.
In 2004 we decided that we could better serve the community as a whole by opening our services to every person who lives, works, worships or attends school in Marion, Polk and Yamhill counties. Through that transition, we came to realize that the Oregon Employees name that had served us well for so many years was now too specific for our broadened service area and diverse membership.
So with that in mind, in 2013 we changed our name to Heritage Grove Federal Credit Union. We chose the name because we believe that the word “heritage” connects us with the heritage of the early pioneers who settled here, the heritage of the city of Salem becoming the capitol of Oregon, and our own local heritage with state employees. The word "grove" signifies a group working together, as well as a place to gather and prosper.
In addition to the new name, we also incorporated the motto, “Stand Tall,” which reflects our deep roots in the community and our ability to rise above all obstacles. It conveys that in a tough economy and in good times, this credit union will be available to provide sound advice and financial programs so that we are all empowered to stand tall together, with our heads held high.
The one thing that hasn’t changed is our commitment to the members who got us to where we are today. We look forward to continuing that personalized relationship as we move forward.
